Vihal Bhardwaj's upcoming film Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola (MKBKM) has passed the Censor Board and received a 'U/A' certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
This will be a first, as all of the director's previous works, except the children's film Makdee, have been 'A' films in the past.
Originally, there was some doubts as to how the film would fare with the Board as Pankaj Kapur's character says 'Pancho', and the CBFC felt it sounded like a Hindi cuss word. However, the thought was sidelined and now the film is open to be watched by a family audience.
The film, which releases on January 11 and is presented by Fox Star Studios and produced by Bhardwaj himself, is a comedy and a bit different from his previous work. Says he, "I’ve always wanted my films to reach out to a wider audience. Finally with MKBKM, not restricted by the ‘A’ rating, I’ll be able to do so. I’d like to thank the CBFC for giving this rating as it’s a bright and happy film.”
