Close on the heels of her prestigious Padma Shri honour, Sridevi won another award at the NDTV Indian Of The Year ceremony at New Delhi. The superstar was honoured with 'Entertainer of the Year' award for her historic comeback with English Vinglish in 2012. NDTV lauded the actress for proving that 'talent can only get better with age' and again making it possible for 'actresses of substance to take center-stage in Bollywood.' The award was presented to Sridevi by BJP leader Sushma Swaraj who revealed that she loved watching Sridevi's films.
English Vinglish released in October last year, went on to become a global hit and found a place in Top 10 Overseas Blockbusters of 2012 making Sridevi possibly the only actress in Bollywood history to make such a triumphant comeback. The superstar received a standing ovation at the film's World Premiere at the Toronto Film Festival and was hailed by the international media as 'India's Meryl Streep.' Sridevi was also nominated by CNN-IBN Indian of the Year in Entertainment category and later picked up Hello Magazine Hall of Fame Outstanding Performance of the Year award, Stardust Best Actress (Drama) award and Apsara Producer's Guild 'President's Honour' for English Vinglish. Recently the actress was also voted 'India's Greatest Actress of All Time' in a nationwide poll by CNN-IBN.
Kareena Kapoor was also present at the NDTV ceremony to pick up her award for 'Entertainer of the Decade' and called Sridevi the reason why she became an actress and that the superstar had set the bar again for all other actresses with English Vinglish.
