Gotten noticed for her performances in Nishabd and Ghajini, Jiah Khan was in great demand by filmmakers. She was one of the promising faces that had just entered the industry. However, the unfortunate or rather repulsive act of terrorists attacking Mumbai in 2008 put the status of many non-Indian workers in India in jeopardy. Having learned that the terrorists were living in India for several months prior to the attack, the Indian High Commission shut itself off to many outsiders and refused to renew their work visas. As a result, Jiah Khan had to return to England and had to let go off certain projects that she had signed up for. At the time, she was shooting for 'Chance Pe Dance' opposite Shahid Kapoor but due to her removal from Indian, Genelia D'Souza replaced her.
Nonetheless, Jiah had a very talented and determined manager in her mother, Rabiya who ensured that her stayed "relevant" in the Bollywood circles. For instance, Jiah attended all Bollywood themed parties in the UK - one particular instance is when she showed up for the grand premier of 'Delhi Belly' in a gorgeous gown, making everyone's cameras go ga-ga over her.
Jiah also saw a bit of hope when she started working in 'Housefull 2'. Her scenes were shot in the UK and Italy, which allowed her to work in the film.
Around the same time, the Indian High Commission had decided to open up the Indian borders once again to foreign nationals, and Jiah rushed back to Mumbai. But the harsh reality Bollywood stared right into her eyes. It was the case of "out of sight out of mind". Newer promising faces had replaced her and the industry-men no longer desired her as much. She had to start from scratch...all over again. She suffered deeply on the professional front. She recently had an audition in Hyderabad for a South Indian film which did not go too well and she was quite upset about it.
According to the report, the last phone conversation on her phone was with Suraj Pancholi, son of Aditya Pancholi who she was rumoured to be seeing. Suraj has been taken into police custody for questioning. There were a number of text messages being exchanged by the duo in which, Jiah had questioned his loyalty. She was found dead at 11:15 pm in her Juhu apartment by her mother.
ABP news confimed that Suraj had told the police that they were in a relationship and, "she [Jiah] told me she was about to get three films, I sent her flowers.” He further said, “Jiah wanted me to call her every hour, she was insecure, she spoke to me at 10.53 pm, she did not answer my SMS at 11.07pm.”
