Deepa Mehta and Salman Rushdie attend Midnight's Children screening

Deepa Mehta's brother, journalist Dilip Mehta held a special screening of the director's upcoming feature Midnight's Children in the capital at PVR Plaza yesterday.

The special screening was aimed at raising funds for Ila Trust founded by Reeta Devi, who was present. The event was also graced by author Salman Rushdie on whose Booker-prize winning novel the film is based, actress Seema Biswas, Minister of Human Resource Shashi Tharoor and his wife Sunanda Pushkar.

Speaking of the initiative taken by Reeta Devi, Deepa Mehta said, “It takes one honest, motivated person to help better the lives of hundreds. Reeta Dev Burman is that one person. She leads a one woman crusade to alleviate the suffering of those marginalized by society. To have the premium screening of our film Midnights Children in benefit of Ila Trust founded by Reeta is indeed an honour and a privilege.”

The film which is based on the twist of fate journeys of the two protagonists with a cultural backdrop, the film will release in India on 1st February 2013 and stars Satya Bhabha, Shriya Saran, Seema Biswas, Shabana Azmi, Anupam Kher, Siddharth Narayan, Rahul Bose, Soha Ali Khan, Shahana Goswami, Anita Majumdar and Darsheel Safary. The film was premiered in September 2012 at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Vancouver International Film Festival.
